The MQ-7 sensor is based on a tin dioxide (SnO₂) sensitive layer whose resistance changes when exposed to carbon monoxide gas. Unlike many other MQ sensors, the MQ-7 requires alternating heater voltages to accurately measure CO. The module provides an analog output proportional to gas concentration and a digital output that can be adjusted using an onboard potentiometer.
